Osteoporosis doesn’t always come with a warning sign. It can progress quietly over time, weakening your bones without you even realizing it; sometimes until a fracture happens.
Don’t wait for something to go wrong before taking your bone health seriously. Start building strength now, protect your body for the future, and take control of what you can.
Why I care
You can feel completely fine and still be losing bone strength.
That’s one of the biggest reasons I want to talk about osteoporosis. It can develop quietly, without obvious symptoms, and for some people, the first sign is a broken bone.
I work with clients at different stages of osteoporosis, from people working to protect and improve their bone health to those who have already experienced multiple fractures.
And there’s one thing I want more people to understand:
You don't have to wait for something to break before you start getting stronger.
What is osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weaker and more fragile, making them easier to break. It’s often called a “silent disease” because you may not know you have it until a fracture occurs.
Fractures are especially common in the hip, spine, and wrist. These injuries can affect your mobility, independence, and quality of life.
Why strength training matters
Your bones respond to the demands you place on them. Resistance and weight-bearing exercise can help maintain bone strength, while strength training builds the muscles that support your body.
Getting stronger can also improve balance, stability, and physical function, which can help reduce your risk of falls and fractures.
If you already have osteoporosis or have experienced a fracture, your workouts may need to be modified. More exercise isn't automatically better, the right exercise matters.
I've seen the difference with my own clients.
This isn't something I only talk about, I currently work with clients living with osteoporosis.
I have clients whose follow-up bone-density scans have shown improvement after incorporating consistent strength training into their overall care. I also train clients who have already experienced osteoporosis-related fractures, including spinal fractures, and not just one…
For those clients, we don't simply avoid exercise because their bones are fragile. We train appropriately. We focus on building strength, improving balance and stability, strengthening the muscles that support the body, and choosing movements that are appropriate for their individual needs and medical history.
I can't promise that strength training will reverse osteoporosis, and exercise isn't a replacement for medical treatment. But you can become stronger and have a training program that takes your bone health seriously.
Don't Wait Until It's Too Late.
You don't have to wait for a fracture, a fall, or worsening bone health before you start taking your strength seriously.
Whether you've recently been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, have already experienced a fracture, or simply want to protect your bones as you age, now is the time to start.
Your bones need strength too. Let's get stronger together.
